WCU to offer Stained Glass Workshop Nov. 6-Dec.18
11/3/2008 - Western Carolina University will offer “Learning for Fun: Stained Glass” from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, Nov. 6 through Dec.18 in the Cordelia Camp Building.
The course will follow the Tiffany method of stained glass, where each piece of glass is wrapped in copper foil and then soldered.
Each student will complete a project in plain glass and a small panel in colored glass by the end of the course.
“This is a great class for both beginners and advanced students or for anyone interested in making gifts for the holidays,” said Susan Fouts, director of continuing education at WCU.
Participants will learn safety; proper cutting, foiling and soldering techniques; simple metal framing; and types of glass, solders and copper foils.
Instructor Moya O’Neal has worked with stained glass for more than 20 years. O’Neal has been an active member of the International Guild of Glass Artists and teaches privately in her spare time.
Cost for the course is $85. Students also will be expected to purchase their solder, foil, glass, safety glasses and cotton gloves. Other tools will be provided in class.
For more information or to register, contact the Division of Educational Outreach at (828) 227-7397, toll free at (800) 928-4968 or visit the Web site http://learn.wcu.edu.
